This beautifully-coloured bird is the Rainbow Pitta. Endemic to Australia and inhabiting just a tiny region at the tip of the NT and coastal Kimberley, this is a secretive bird that will typically shy away from humans.

Despite having a very limited distribution being rarely encountered, the Rainbow Pitta is not endangered or threatened – it simply doesn’t want to hang out with us.
