In the wild, Meerkats will designate one member of the group to be a lookout while the group hunts – keeping an eye out for potential predators and alerting the group with a high-pitched squeal if one is spotted.
These instincts from the African savannah carry over to this meerkat, photographed at Melbourne Zoo, who’s found the highest ground possible in order to keep watch over the family.
