Slovenia is a hidden gem in the heart of Europe, and without a doubt, its top destination is Lake Bled. Surrounded by a stunning mountain landscape, this beautiful blue lake contains an island with a 17th century church in its centre.

Shot on an iPhone in 2016, this was the first photo I ever took that I think people were genuinely impressed by. And by ‘people’, I mean my grandparents, who proudly hung it on their wall.

I remember chatting to some travellers at the hostel who had visited Lake Bled the day before we did, and they’d been unable to see the island in the middle (let alone the majestic mountain backdrop) due to thick fog.

This photograph taught me that while there will always be more to learn, the first step in capturing a great image is putting yourself out there, and being in the right place at the right time.
