When the Omicron variant arrived in Peru in January, the nation experienced its largest spike in cases since the pandemic began. Despite numbers having now stabilised, restrictions in Peru remain relatively strict, with a full two-week quarantine period for those that test positive, and an outdoor mask mandate still in place. Peruvians are even required to wear two masks unless they specifically have a KN95.
However, the nation remains vibrant and the restrictions have not deterred the many tourists and backpackers that have since returned to the country. Nor have they deterred the spirits of this woman, whom I spotted receiving a bunch of sunflowers in order to brighten up her isolation period.
